Track and Build

COLD BEAM GAMES A WINNER IN THE FIRST JÄGERMEISTER ‘TRACK AND BUILD’ SOUNDTRACK COMPETITION

Electronic artist ROY has been selected to work on a new video game soundtrack, produced by award-winning cinematic bass duo Koven, with Manchester-based video games studio Cold Beam Games the other lucky winner

The winners of an exciting new initiative, supported by drinks brand Jägermeister, can now be revealed.

Straddling the worlds of music and video games, the Track and Build competition was launched at the end of 2018 to find an indie video games studio to work with an artist/band on an exclusive track for one of its games, with the winning track benefiting from the production skills of award-winning cinematic bass duo, Koven: the artists behind Rocket League’s ‘My Love’ and the trailer music for Drive Club.

From almost one thousand submissions, the winning artist chosen was electronic artist ROY with his track ‘You Know,” which will now benefit from the production and mastering skills of Koven.

ROY, AKA Roy Levy, said: "When I first heard about the 'Track and Build' competition, I quickly knew that this would be an amazing opportunity for me to show my strength as a producer, plus extra motivation knowing that the chosen artist would work with Koven.

“I can’t even describe how thrilled I was when I was announced as the winner!

“I’m super excited to branch out to a new audience with my music, and would like to thank LableRadar, NCS and Koven for their support.”

After choosing the right artist, an indie studio had to be selected, with the judges unanimously voting Cold Beam Gamesthe winner, with their intense music-driven arcade shooter Beat Hazard 2.

Beat Hazard 2 builds on the studio’s first release, mixing the user’s own MP3 music collection into the game, creating a twin-stick arena shooter, an innovative and unique approach which fitted the Track and Build initiative perfectly.

“I’m very excited to have won the Track and Build competition, said Beat Hazard 2 creator, Steve Hunt. “I can’t wait to hear the new track and play it in the game. I think it’s going to be amazing.”

Discussing the inaugural Track and Build competition, Tom Carson, Music Manager, Jägermeister, said: “It’s been a really exciting project to be involved with, from selecting the artist and track, through to finding the right studio and game to work on.

“The standard of both games and music submitted was exceptionally high, which made our lives much harder, but it’s great to know there is so much talent across the video games and music sectors.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing how the relationship develops between ROY and Cold Beam Games and wish both the greatest success going forward.”

Leading music outfits NCS and LabelRadar were also integral parts of the Track and Build journey for year one, with just shy of one thousand music submissions sent via the LabelRadar portal.

“Supporting emerging creative-talent is fundamental to NCS,” said Graham Best, Director, NCS. “We’re thrilled with the response for Track and Build in its first year and look forward to helping both artist and games studio going forward.”

LabelRadar CEO Ed Brew added: “The quality of music sent in via the LabelRadar platform for Track and Build has been incredible. We’re very proud to be able to help connect the dots between amazing music and top brands like NCS and Jägermeister. We look forward to assisting many more artists, studios, labels and music supervisors in the near future and can’t wait to play Beat Hazard 2.”
