SHURE AXIENT® DIGITAL EXCEEDS HIGH EXPECTATIONS FOR STOCKHOLMSMÄSSAN UPGRADE

Exhibition Centre Adds 68 Channels of Axient Digital, Will Increase to 120 Channels by 2019

Stockholm/Sweden, September 17 2018− The Stockholm International Fairs and Congress Centre in Sweden recently installed 68 channels of the Shure Axient® Digital Wireless System.Stockholmsmässan is Scandinavia’s largest exhibition centre, with a total of 75,000 square metres of exhibition area. It hosts high-level international conferences and events throughout the year, including the world-renowned Medical Congress, which attracts more than 15,000 medical professionals during a three-day period.

Reliability was a key factor in the decision when it came to selecting a new wireless system. Axient Digital was chosen for its superb audio quality at low latency, long battery life, and versatile channel bandwidth.

The dedicated in-house AV department, which oversees the small, mid-size, and large conference and exhibition applications, needed a dependable wireless system with excellent performance. Fredrik Zetterberg, Head of Production Event Technologies, Stockholmsmässan, said that the system had “exceeded all expectations in sonic quality.”

“Axient Digital is the best sound quality we’ve ever heard in a digital system,” explains Zetterberg. “From exhibitions to corporate events, we use Axient Digital constantly. This month we will use 132 systems for a two-day corporate event, with a total of 212 wireless systems in operation, showcasing the system’s flexibility and reliability.”

The installation was managed by specialist Swedish audio rental company Parashoot, “Choosing Axient Digital for the Stockholmsmässan project was our first choice of system,” offers Oscar Söderlund, founder of Parashoot. “Signal stability, along with audio clarity, was paramount to a successful installation. Add to this the flexible hardware options and advanced connectivity Axient Digital offers, and there really is no other system you can count on for coverage and signal quality.”

SURREY BUSINESS SCHOOL SELECTS SHURE MICROFLEX® WIRELESS SOLUTIONS

University of Surrey Business School undergoes comprehensive AV upgrade

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: An AV overhaul has transformed Surrey Business School at the University of Surrey, Guildford, resulting in a state-of-the-art 400+ seat lecture theatre, with multiple teaching benefits.

The audio installation is a collaboration between Shure and award-winning systems integrator Snelling Business Systems.

The project’s goal was to create a single AV system built to the requirements of three user groups - Lecture Theatre/Classroom Lectures, Live Events and Cinema Theatre - without the need for prior training or dedicated IT support.

“The vast capabilities of the system are perfect for the range of uses we have, from lectures to live events and conference, as well as a cinema,” said Rob Purcell, Head of Learning Spaces Technology at the University of Surrey. “During everyday use, there is no set-up required, which ensures that the academic tutor is confident they can use the system without IT support. Traditional lectures and seminars can be recorded at the press of a button, making the resource perfect for today’s online learning environment.

“Another great aspect of the design is its adaptability. Within the first six months the AV system has enabled us to rearrange the space radically to facilitate multiple layouts and forums. Having an AV system with such high-tech specifications means that all of our events exceed the expectations of the often high-profile attendants.”

Working with the University, Shure’s technical team created a flexible, user-friendly system designed for fast and reliable switchover from one user mode to another at the touch of a button. The team provided technical support and streaming tests across campus between lecture theatres to asses Microflex® Wireless capabilities for RF stability and networked control.

Steve Royans, Business Development Director, Snelling Business Systems, commented: “Given the brief of the project to extend system flexibility, Shure were a natural choice for our client, largely due to the available API, Remote Management, and System Integration capabilities.”

“We required a system which is not only simple to use in day-to-day operation, but also operable in multiple setup modes,” added Purcell. “For example, the Lecture Theatre has three widely varying user groups and the system must respond to their requirements, while masking the complexity of the underlying technology. While academics require a system that is up and running at the touch of a few buttons, the live events team require a far more complex array of options.”

With audio an integral part of any lecture environment, Shure’s Microflex® Wireless system was chosen to complete the upgrade, with the system providing high-quality microphones, which offer a natural, precise sound and high intelligibility.

The system also benefits from the flexibility of form offered through 2x Shure Microflex® Wireless body pack microphones situated at the tutor’s desk, and 14x Shure Microflex® Wireless mics, comprising 2x wireless body pack microphones, 4x handheld wireless XLR adaptor transmitters, 2x omnidirectional table microphones and 6x gooseneck transmitter bases.

All microphones are used in conjunction with lecture capture software to record voice, ensuring audio clarity is delivered across the whole system, and creating the perfect environment for students and lecturers to work within.

“Providing IT administrators and AV technicians the ability to monitor and control Shure hardware devices remotely was most appealing, given the focus of the brief on live events,” remarked Royans. “Furthermore, to aid end-user operation, the battery, charging and mute status, on a per-microphone basis, can be programmed to graphically display on the Crestron touch panel.”

“It goes without saying, Shure hold a strong reputation for taking the hassle out of networked audio devices. They posed no hassle in programming and integration throughout the spaces we have equipped and have proven remarkably simple for the end-user to learn their usage too.”

Shure wins two Red Dot Design Awards in 2018

Microflex® Advance™ and ULX-D® Digital Wireless Recognized By Expert Judging Panel for Exceptional Innovation and Design

LAS VEGAS, June 6, 2018—Shure Incorporated continues a long history of product design excellence by bringing home two Red Dot Design Awards for the Shure Microflex® Advance™ and ULX-D® Digital Wireless microphone systems. The Red Dot award is an internationally renowned product design award, issued by Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen in Essen, Germany, to celebrate and recognize products that are globally distinguished in innovation and distinctive design.

“Winning the Red Dot award for Microflex Advance and ULX-D showcases our commitment to leveraging design as a driver of innovation at Shure,” said John Miller, Shure’s Creative Director of Industrial Design. “We are extremely proud of the hard work and creativity by the design and development teams that enabled bringing the vision for these products into reality.”

The Microflex Advance (MXA) portfolio of networked ceiling and table array microphones for enhanced A/V experiences are designed to blend seamlessly into meeting spaces. The MXA310 Table Array Microphone and MXA910 Ceiling Array Microphone include proprietary array technology that provide discrete and elegant form factors without sacrificing premium audio quality.

The ULX-D Digital Wireless System is comprised of two table-top microphone form factors and docking station—the ULXD8 Gooseneck Base Transmitter, ULXD6 Boundary Microphone Transmitter, and SBC850 Networked Docking Station. The ULX-D collection earns its place at the conference table rather than the utility closet by way of efficiency and elegance. Efficiency, by charging eight mics in the space typical of four, and by clever integration of the antenna into the form of the mics. Elegance by presenting the charging system as architecture and treating each mic as a quietly confident object with sophisticated surfacing.

Participants from 59 nations entered products and innovations for the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2018. The international jury awards the prestigious honor to products that feature unique, exceptional design. The independent expert panel assesses each entry based on degree of innovation, formal quality, functionality, and durability.

Shure enhances SystemOn Audio Asset Management Software with new features

Remote Mic Linking, Homepage Inventory Management, and “Pair-A-Spare” Among Improved Feature

Today, Shure announced enhancements to its SystemOn Audio Asset Management Software. SystemOn enables users to monitor Shure devices without requiring constant attention and proactively alerts users through SMS and email when action is required.

For AV and IT staff responsible for large-scale installations, SystemOn combats daily microphone issues such as battery life and missing devices. The SystemOn framework is designed to complement existing Shure wireless systems by providing management and control across enterprise-wide deployments.

New enhancements for Shure Microflex® Wireless include remote microphone transmitter linking that enables users to automatically link a mic to an access point in a room from a remote location, such as a Help Desk. New “pair-a-spare” capabilities for Microflex Wireless lets users create a back-up mic or a second form factor to be paired to one MXWAPT channel. This helps to limit meeting interruptions and lets users swap in new microphones more quickly and easier than before.

New features for Microflex Wireless, ULXD® Digital Wireless, and the SCM820 automatic mixer include a comprehensive inventory dashboard that displays all devices in one simplified homepage, and provides an all-inclusive hardware status view. SystemOn enables users to control these devices from a central location, and provide SMS and e-mail notifications for a 360-degree view of a room’s system, capabilities, and acute needs. SystemOn remotely monitors battery life, product inventory, audio levels, and RF spectrum status for different Shure hardware devices. In a world where constant connectivity is necessary and seamless performance is expected, SystemOn provides users with more control and eliminates potential issues ahead of time.

“The enhanced capabilities of SystemOn provide even more support and control for users tasked with managing multiple installations,” said Chad Wiggins, Senior Director of Networked Systems at Shure. “From remote mic linking to a centralized, completely comprehensive inventory dashboard, SystemOn offers updates and information in real-time—before issues arise—so that facility needs can be addressed as proactively as possible. The new features provide an even greater level of control and flexibility, ensuring users can successfully manage even the largest system deployments.”

SystemOn software is sold through a subscription license that covers a defined time period, ranging from one to five years. Each network-connected device requires one license. The software is available for purchase through any authorized Shure system integrator or distribution center.

SystemOn currently supports Microflex Wireless, ULX-D Digital Wireless (handheld and bodypack transmitters), and SCM820. For more information on Shure and the SystemOn Audio Asset Management Software, please visit www.shure.com/systemOn.

Bayer boosts collaboration with Shure Microflex Advance

Leading biotech company invests in conferencing audio at new UK HQ

Reading, UK, August 2017 — Leading biotechnology and pharmaceutical company Bayer has unveiled cutting edge AV systems throughout its new Green Park headquarters, working with MiX Consultancy and Focus 21 to create collaborative spaces, meeting rooms, and presentation suites at the heart of its four floors. This led to creating a number of versatile, flexible meeting spaces that had to be consistent, reliable, and easy to use.

A key part of the building is the main meeting space and town hall area. This large area is designed to be divisible into a number of rooms or opened into one space, creating a challenge when it comes to maintaining clear, intelligible audio. To achieve this, the space was designed for audio conferencing and voice-lift from two Microflex® Advance™ MXA910 Ceiling Array AV Conferencing Microphones and a Microflex® Wireless AV Conferencing system.

The MXA910 Ceiling Array microphone features Steerable Coverage™ Technology, using up to eight separate lobes to accurately capture sound sources from above. Control software offers easy configuration of all parameters, including lobe steering, presets, and templates. This combination ensures a simple solution that delivers pristine audio while also being discreet and architecturally unobtrusive – ideal for high-end corporate spaces. In addition, due to its location, the Ceiling Array encourages users to act and speak naturally, as they are not focused on a central microphone, contributing to improved conferencing, better internal communications, and increased productivity.

A key factor in the decision to choose products from the Shure Microflex family was that they are corporate network ready and can connect to networks and third-party control systems using standard protocols for remote management and campus-wide implementation.

As Glynn Seymour, IT Project Lead for Bayer, explained: “The convergence of IT and AV is not a new trend but something of increasing significance for new builds and refurbishment. The Bayer UK headquarters move was part of a wider culture change to a more agile way of working and our new home had to reflect and support this, whilst adhering to corporate standards in many areas. We were challenged to create a variety of meeting spaces that were versatile but retained ease of use and bolstered the image of Bayer as an innovation-driven Life Science organisation.”

John Ellis, Shure Systems UK Regional Sales Manager, said: “As one of our key partners, Focus 21 worked with the Shure Systems Group to specify audio solutions that deliver consistent clarity for meetings and presentations. The Shure AV Conferencing microphones provide Bayer with pristine sound quality with ease of use and flexibility.”

Justin Paveley, Projects Director at Focus 21, explains: “The reason why these were selected by the Mix team was because, at present, these are the best-performing microphones on the market, with extensive coverage of the space. Aesthetically, these are much more subtle than ceiling microphones and fitted the bill for the client."

QSC shoots and scores at Derby County FC's Pride Park stadium

Audio experts RH Consulting and Shure Distribution UK deliver concert quality sound at the home of the Rams

Derby County Football Club claims to have the loudest and best sounding stadium in the UK, having installed redundant Q-SYS Core 1100 processors, along with QSC CXD 4.3Q amplifiers and QSC Q-SYS I/O Frame processors.

Replacing the sound system in any stadium is no simple job, and often comes with a big budget attached. However, Derby County has keen ambitions and the investment has paid off, with the Championship Club now boasting a sound system one would normally associate with a rock concert, rather than a football match.

Roland Hemming, Principal Consultant at RH Consulting explained the process and thinking behind the installation:

“The system at Derby County had been in place for around 11 years, but under the new ownership of Mel Morris, upgrading the audio system was one of a number of projects that he was very keen to invest in.

“Ultimately, Mel’s brief was that he wanted the best sounding stadium around – a high quality audio experience.

“Richard Northwood was the lead on the project, he designed it and worked very closely with d&b on the electro-acoustic design. RH Consulting is an approved Q-SYS programmer, so we knew what we were doing.

Along with replacing the bowl loudspeaker system and the electronics in the back-of-the-house areas, the team at RH Consulting also installed new amplifiers driven by Q-SYS, with the system using a combination of QSC amplifiers for the back-of-the-house and d&b loudspeakers in the bowl. All of the Q-SYS equipment was supplied by Shure Distribution UK.

Unusually, Derby County has its own contractors who worked with RH Consulting on the installation which - along with careful procurement - helped keep the costs below what one would normally associate with a high-end QSC/d&b stadium project. However, including Q-SYS Core 1100 processors was always part of the plan, as Hemming explains:

“We chose the Q-SYS Platform because we know that this system will grow. Derby County has plans for other parts of the site, and we can continue to build on those Core 1100 processors as we’re not using all of their capabilities by any stretch at the moment. They were put in as the foundation stone for many years of change and development to come.

Along with the Q-SYS processors there are also several small Q-SYS touch screens situated around the stadium for control and paging, with full monitoring, as Q-SYS is a fully networked solution. In the event of an emergency, regulations stipulate that everything must be working correctly, and the touch screens fulfill that part of the brief. There are also other advantages to working with QSC on a stadium sound project.

“We like working with QSC because projects like Derby County need custom scripting,” explains Hemming.

“We need to communicate with third-party equipment, with full monitoring and control of the d&b amplifiers which are up in the roof in air conditioned cabinets as well as talking to the network switches site wide because we have to monitor those as well.

“That’s why Q-SYS is so good, because if you want to control something, you can write a plugin for it. We know Q-SYS, we know what it does and we know how to use it. We knew from the outset that it was going to be more than capable of doing the job. We have a great relationship with Shure Distribution UK and QSC, which has led to successful integration of Q-SYS.”

So, does the stadium now live up to the claim of being the loudest in the UK?

“The local paper said it was the loudest and it may be, but it’s certainly the best sounding,” concludes Hemming. “For a 30,000-seat stadium, the performance is incredible.”
