WARE, HERTFORDSHIRE, AUGUST 24TH 2015: Book publisher Wordsworth Editions has released Richard III as the latest title in its Shakespeare series.
Newly edited, introduced and annotated by Cedric Watts, M.A., Ph.D., Emeritus Professor of English, University of Sussex, Richard III is one of Shakespeare’s finest historical dramas.
Richard III was one of the most colourful and controversial of the English kings, from growing up during The War of the Roses to dying violently on the battlefield at Bosworth Field and coming to rest under a car park in Leicester.
He continues to split opinion even now, as his supporters claim that the evil hunch-backed villain that has come down through history was no more than Tudor propaganda.
Either way, Richard III's Machiavellian scheming still serves to inspire his modern television equivalents - such as Frank Underwood (and originally Frances Urquhart) in House of Cards.
Helen Trayler Ranson, Managing Director at Wordsworth Editions, said: “It is against this background of renewed interest that Wordsworth are publishing Shakespeare's Richard III, being the 21st play in Professor Cedric Watts' acclaimed editions of Shakespeare's finest works.
“Professor Watts' introduction provides a fascinating insight into the origins of the play as well as a full historical background to this most charismatic of villains.”
Richard III is now available from all leading booksellers for £1.99.
Other works of Shakespeare available from Wordsworth Editions include Antony and Cleopatra, As You Like It, Hamlet, Henry IV Parts 1 & 2, Henry V, Julius Caesar, King Lear, Macbeth, Measure for Measure, The Merchant of Venice, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Much Ado About Nothing, Othello, Richard II, Romeo and Juliet, The Taming of the Shrew, The Tempest, Twelfth Night and The Winter's Tale.
Various compilations are also available, including The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, The Great Comedies and Tragedies and The Poems and Sonnets of William Shakespeare.
